Computer Aided Design has significantly revolutionized the modern jewelry industry.
3D CAD/CAM gives a jeweler the ability to design absolutely perfect jewelry pieces on a computer screen. The jeweler can then send the 3 dimensional design file to the machine, which builds a wax model pixel by pixel, exactly the way the piece was designed. The wax model created in this process is similar to that of a traditional lost wax model. However, the difference between the two methods is tremendous! State of the art wax models created with CAM, are many times more clean and precise than hand made models. They are ready to be cast and finished immediately by traditional lost wax methods, and result in a much more precise finished product.
CAD is a great tool to support a jewelers skills. It gives us the ability to render creative designs in a photo-realistic image. This enables our customer to see exactly how their piece of jewelry is going to look. Seeing the whole design and how each part and detail interact in three dimensions is a unique and mind opening experience.
